The great lexicon of extended reality
AR, VR, MR, XR... the jungle of tech acronyms can discourage even the most passionate. We demystify each technology and explain why Joey Cyan made the deliberate choice of AR.
Virtual Reality (VR)
VR immerses you in a completely artificial world. You wear an opaque headset that completely blocks the real world. Ideal for immersive video games, it is not designed for prolonged mobile use.
Mixed Reality (MR)
MR precisely merges the real and virtual worlds: digital objects can interact with your environment. Very powerful, but bulky and expensive.
Augmented Reality (AR) — The Joey Cyan choice
AR overlays digital information on top of the real world, without blocking it. You see your environment normally, enriched with data.
- You remain present in the real world safely
- Discreet form factor — it looks like regular glasses
- All-day use without fatigue
- Compatible with all daily activities
- Maximum battery life (up to 72 hours in standard use)
Joey Cyan's MicroOLED technology
Joey Cyan uses micro-OLED screens with a resolution of 2048x2048 pixels per eye, projected through a system of Gorilla Glass waveguides. The result: a sharp, bright image that consumes very little energy.
The future: towards lightweight MR?
Joey Cyan is investing in R&D for ultra-lightweight MR glasses. Our goal for 2028: to merge the precision of MR with the lightness of our current AR glasses.
